Amarjot Surdhar, M.D.

I am a Double Board-Certified psychiatrist with over 15 years of clinical experience helping people work through life’s most complex mental health challenges. My practice is built on evidence-based care, respect, compassion, and patience for each person’s unique story, and practical strategies and answers that help patients move forward.

I trained and have served in various psychiatric settings across the Greater New York Area, including inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Room Settings. I have expertise in handling complex situations ranging from treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and psychotic disorders. Additionally, I have dealt with a spectrum of conditions relating to substance use disorders. This includes everything ranging from alcohol, opiates, and Benzodiazepine medications (commonly known as Benzos), Cocaine, Ecstasy, and Marijuana. For addiction treatments and for patients receiving controlled medications, I also arrange for regular testing for treatment adherence and monitoring through LabCorp. I work with my patients to find solutions that work using psychopharmacology as well as therapy interventions. I have a network of therapists who work with me independently to coordinate care and best outcomes for my patients.

My work includes extensive use of FDA-approved medications for the treatment of psychiatric disorders.

I am highly skilled at working within court-mandated and forensic psychiatry frameworks, helping patients navigate both legal and clinical systems while maintaining a focus on recovery and stability.

Beyond medication management, I also integrate motivational interviewing and other therapy-informed techniques to improve insight and change. I also guide harm reduction approaches when complete abstinence is not yet possible, helping patients achieve safer use patterns and better long-term outcomes.

I am committed to providing care that is clear, structured, and actionable. Patients often come to me after trying multiple treatments without progress; my goal is to clarify options, use the latest research and clinical guidelines, and build treatment plans that feel manageable and sustainable. I also teach and mentor psychiatric residents, staying current with advancements in psychopharmacology and neuromodulation, including rTMS and other noninvasive therapies for depression.

My practice serves adults seeking expert evaluation and ongoing care, including busy professionals who require efficient and confidential access to mental health support. I aim to create a space where people can make informed decisions about medication, therapy, and long-term planning for their mental wellness.

If you are seeking straightforward, evidence-based psychiatric care from a physician who values results and respects your time, I welcome the opportunity to work with you.

For your convenience, I offer care via Telehealth through the platform below, as well as in-person visits at my office locations in Midtown Manhattan and Saratoga Springs, Upstate New York.
