Buprenorphine, often known by the brand name Suboxone, is an FDA-approved medication that helps many people find stability and comfort in recovery from opioid use disorder. It is frequently combined with naloxone. Dr. Surdhar has extensive experience guiding patients through every stage of buprenorphine treatment, and he is glad to answer your questions at your own pace.
Getting started
Treatment begins with a gentle process called induction, which is guided by your physician. Over about two to three days, your dose is adjusted until withdrawal symptoms are comfortably controlled, and the right dose for you is found.
Ongoing care
After induction, most people continue on a steady, comfortable dose during the maintenance phase. Your dose can be adjusted up or down as your needs change. Some people later choose a gradual taper, with the goal of feeling steady and confident without medication. That decision is always yours, and we will move at a pace that feels right.
Options that fit your life
Buprenorphine is available in several forms, including generic tablets, films that dissolve inside the cheek, and a micronized tablet that uses a lower total dose. A long-acting monthly injection, Sublocade, is another option. Which form is best for you will be decided together after your evaluation.
