For some people it is the right choice, and for others buprenorphine or another option may be a better fit. How methadone treatment works
When methadone is used for opioid use disorder, it is provided through licensed opioid treatment programs, sometimes called methadone clinics, where medication is dispensed with close and supportive supervision, often daily at first. Methadone is also used by pain management physicians to treat pain, which is a different purpose.
